Spa week had this to say about Pure Blue Spa in Newport Beach, CA:

About Pure Blu Spa at the Newport Beach Marriott

Pure Blu Spa boasts 14,000 square feet of spa luxury! Pure Blu is separated into a Ladies and a Men's side and each side of the spa has a eucalyptus steam room, dry sauna, salt water whirlpool jacuzzi, refreshing cold water foot plunge, private and co-ed relaxation rooms, private (spa only) outdoor swimming pool with lounge chairs, cabanas and poolside food and beverage service! *robes, slippers and lockers are provided for your convenience. Spa services include complementary valet or self parking and require a 4 hour change or cancellation notice (or appointments are charged in full).

The Yelp reviews were very interesting.  The Spa got generally high marks (averaging 3.5 out of 5), with most of the negative reviews coming from guests who were there on a Groupon or other coupon.  Of special interest to this blog, the eucalyptus steam room was mentioned favorably in almost half of the reviews.  It is very unusual to see so many comments on the steam room.  But the eucalyptus seems to be the difference.  Here were some representative examples.

So, it's safe to say that I'm a spa junkie. I especially love full service day spas with relaxation rooms and eucalyptus steam rooms. I've come here a few times and taken advantage of some of their specials. My first visit, I had a deep tissue massage and boy was that different from any massage I've had before. To begin, it was with a male masseuse who worked my muscles harder than a triathlon. Amazingly enough, I felt better and more limber afterwards. I've also had a facial and a body scrub here on different occasions. Each time I had a great experience. I LOVE their steam room. It is spacious, clean and smells great.

Me and my sister came in here on a weekday morning for a facial and massage.  my massage was good, my sister RAVED about the facial.  Was happy with the spa and its amenities overall.  Everything was very clean, stocked well with towels and cucumber water.  We were the only ones there for the whole time we were there and we stayed a couple hours after our appointments.  THe jacuzzi was nice and indoors, the eucalyptus steam room, and cool foot bath was great.

I like the wet sauna (steam room) at Pure Blu more than the one at Burke Williams because PB infuses the steam with eucalyptus scent.  As a girl with allergies, I found this delightful.  If I would come back, it's for this steam room.

5 Worst Steam Rooms in America

A Great Eucalyptus Steam Room Is a Touch of Heaven.  These 5 Miss the Mark

There are a few things in life that leave a memory that touches virtually every sense.  Think 73 degree 7 mph breeze overlooking the blue pacific while sipping something cold.  Or maybe a perfectly hit baseball or golf ball.  Add to the short list a baby's first smile.  These are moments you can drink in and savor.  Moments that you'll remember for years into the future.  For some, a beautifully designed steam bath with the healing scent of eucalyptus would be on their list.  There is something about drinking the steam and essential oil into what seems like every part of your body that provides perfect pleasure to virtually every sensory organ.

Unfortunately, there are some steam rooms in gyms, spas, or hotels that seem to get the short end of the straw.  The potential for an amazing time of relaxing turns into mumbling and consternation.  We are sorry if you thought we were going to name names here.  No can do.  However, we encourage you to do it for us.  Leave the names of your worst steam room experiences in the comments.  Maybe they will send a wake up call.

1.  Obviously the worst steam rooms are those who don't bother to inject eucalyptus oil into the steam.  The cost is truly miniscule.  Less than $3 a day.  Why would any company fail to provide this healthy benefit to their clients.  Some of the other issues below would also be solved with the use of eucalyptus oil.

2.  Instead of smelling like eucalyptus, the steam room smells like . . . dirty laundry.  Warm wet places attract mildew, and we all know what that smells like.  The good news is that Eucalyptus oil is a known antibacterial and anti fungal agent.  In other words, it destroys mildew.

3.  Your visual senses will not appreciate seeing mold in a steam room.  See #2 for the reason there might be mold and for the solution.  Eucalyptus oil to the rescue again.

4.  The room isn't large enough to accommodate the crowd they try to pack in there.  Steam rooms are not enhanced by close contact with others.

5.  Loud steam generators.  Just when your reaching nirvana, the steam comes on with a huge gasp.  This isn't necessary.  There are steam machines that don't sound like the flush toilets on an airplane.

We could get nit picky about outdated look, worn out facilities, policies regarding co-ed, not co-ed, clothing optional or not.  None of those will ruin the mood, so we haven't included them in our list.  If you know the folks at your spa or gym and they aren't using eucalyptus oil in the steam, tell them about our under $3-a-day solution.  Send them to http://EurospaAromatics.com

If you do steam at home or want to get as close as possible in your shower, we now offer a choice of 8 ounce or 16 ounce spray mist bottles of 100% pure, pharmaceutical grade eucalyptus oil direct from our factory.  You can order by calling us at 1-800-395-6478.  (8 oz is only $29.95 + s/h)

This oil, by the way, is the very same oil as we ship to the top luxury hotels and spas all over the US.  They learned long ago that the way to make a steam room perfect is to add Eucalyptus oil.

Exposed - Eucalyptus Oil Does Not Cure This

Eucalyptus Oil May Cure Respiratory Diseases, Malaria, Chocolate Addiction, and Cat Trespasses, but Studies have not yet Shown Any Benefit in Using Eucalyptus Oil for Everything . . . at Least Not Yet!

We have shown elsewhere on this blog that Eucalyptus works at least two ways to help combat and even eliminate malaria.  The trees root system dries up the mosquito breeding grounds.  The scent drives away remaining mosquitoes.  Eucalyptus oil alone, or in combination with other products is the second best mosquito repellent known to man, after DEET.  Amazing, dontcha think?

While the scientific method has yet to conclusively prove that eucalyptus oil is fantastic at reducing the effects of, helping to prevent, and speeding the cure of various respiratory infections and diseases, the folks get it!  And eucalyptus has been used in various products for decades because of their effectiveness.

Sometimes you may not want the cure that eucalyptus oil might offer.  A study has been published that suggests the need for more studies.  Don't they always.  In this case the study says that just inhaling eucalyptus oil might help dampen your craving for . . . chocolate.  The same study also found some help in lowering the desire for cigarettes.  We'll leave you to decide whether to study your own response.

When it comes to cats and their trespasses, we have also provided you with instructions on how to dissuade cats from hanging out in your garden using eucalyptus.  We were kind enough to also note how that process can be done without actually snuffing out Muffy.

Throughout this blog you will see that eucalyptus and its oils have been recommended or can be scientifically proven to be great for killing microbes and bacteria, stopping cold sores, reducing pain in muscles, and providing relief from stress.  Therefore, in its role as a stress reliever it might be a cure or help for many stress related problems such as depression, lower and upper back issues, stomach problems and headaches.
We just need to run the studies.

But we will admit that you can't use eucalyptus oil as a cure for heartache, identity theft, or black thumb (inability to grow garden plants).  There may be other things that you won't be able to use EO for, but not many.  Why not pick up an 8 ounce spray bottle of our 100% pure, pharmaceutical grade eucalyptus oil and try it out for some of these uses.

Might we suggest that the first use might be as a spray mist in your shower.  Just turn the shower on full hot until it is producing steam (and before you enter it, please!)  Then spray a couple of times into the steam.  The aroma will quickly fill the entire room, but especially your shower enclosure.  Moderate the temperature to taste and step in while breathing the healing and calming eucalyptus laden steam.  Your experience will be just like at the finest spas in the world.  Oh, did we mention.  This is the same eucalyptus oil product used at the finest spa steam rooms in the world.  We have reviewed many of those spas elsewhere in this blog.
